Ltd. Minister of State Sophia Kasa (Dr.) in the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agriculture Investment and Resources Department said that as a country, we are not getting the full benefit from our potential in the meat and meat products sector. For this reason, he mentioned that most of the market access is based only on the market access of countries in the Middle East. He explained that the amount of meat sent to these market destinations is very small and the foreign currency earned is also small. The Minister of State pointed out that meat and meat products, one of the export products of the agricultural sector, earned 121 million dollars last year and it is planned to earn 137 million dollars this year.Director General of Animal Development Institute Asrat Tira (Dr.) said that if it is possible to increase the supply of various animals in modern export slaughterhouses in our country and make them work at full capacity, it is possible to increase the foreign exchange earnings from the meat industry. He said that expansion of modern export slaughterhouses has an irreplaceable role in the productivity of animal resources, and all stakeholders should work together in the development of animal resources to further expand market destinations. According to the CEO of Alana Group Ethiopia and the General Manager of Aksheker Ethiopia Casing Private Association Mr. Kalifa Hussain, the meat destination market of our country, which was limited to the Middle East countries for a long time, has now started to be exported to other countries including Asian countries, and this activity is for our country. He said that it creates great hope for the development of the meat industry. Stakeholders from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Development Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mojo City Administration participated in the program and visited Aksheker Ethiopia Kezing Pvt./Pvt.
